Dog’s Name: Wyoming
Breed: shar-pei/pitbull cross
Your dog is a: girl
Hometown: Warren Massachusetts
Story: Wyoming was by far the best dog I have ever had. She was diagnosed in May of 2007 with undifferentiated sarcoma intermediate stage. She underwent surgery to have the tumor removed from her abdomen and sadly we did not get clean margins. I took her to a holistic vet and through the use of diet, supplements and an herbal formula called Hoxey Tonic we got another 4 wonderful years together before the cancer claimed her.
Because of her I got involved in a group called Canine Cancer Awareness and to this day I am still involved. She passed away in March of 2011 but she lives forever in my heart and soul. She taught me so many things. How to live in the moment, not have a care in the world, and the joy she had to just live her life on her terms. These things I have taken to heart and live my life much in the same way now. If you wake up then you have another wonderful day to just be and to enjoy the sun, the rain, and the beautiful world around you.
She is and was my heart and there is nothing I want more than for folks to be aware of the fact that 1 out of 4 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes, the most important thing to remember is it is just a diagnosis not a death sentence and there are treatments available that can give your pup many more days, weeks, months and sometimes years of good quality life to spend with their families. I will always miss her and she will forever be my hero.
